Dogress Bar - New game!

Today's update fixes over 30 typos and while that's pretty neat, I have something a bit more exciting to share!

As my current semester winds down, it really feels like a good time to start working on my next game.

My next game will be called Dogress Bar, and it'll be a transformation-focused virtual pet game!

Here's some art I made for it to test out the resolution/color palette/tile count limitations of the GameBoy. This may not be what it ends up looking like! Still though, wow, my drawing ability has come a long way since I made Thief, haha.

It'll have gameplay similar to a Digimon V-Pet or Tamagotchi but without all the waiting, with animated transformation scenes, and a bit of story, based on the choices you make at the beginning of the game. I'd like to make art to allow you to pick a guy as the person getting transformed as well, but that might be something for a later update.

I anticipate that it'll be done in a few months, but then again, I said that the next update for my Deck of Many Dice would be out "soon" back in December, haha.

Speaking of which, I'll also be rolling out an update to my Deck of Many Dice soon (but for real this time)! I already have Mahjong tiles implemented, and I'd like to have Hanafuda as well. Additionally, I'll be making a guide booklet for how to use the deck, and putting it back up on TheGameCrafter for anyone who wants a physical copy. Sorry about keeping it down for so long!

when do you think it'll be out as of now?

(1 edit)

Probably not super soon, my schoolwork has been preventing me from making very fast progress on it (and while I am on break right now, I'm currently trying to use all the stuff I've learned while making Dogress to build a tiny game for 7DFPS). My plans have progressed quite a bit since I wrote this post though:

I wrote a post a while back detailing my switch to a lowpoly 3D artstyle, and I've recently made a lot of progress on making shaders for easily controllable animated transformations on 3D models. (also, if you follow my account, Itch will notify you when I'm finished!)

when you do release this can you make it playable to browser?

(+1)

Yep, my plans for this one have changed a lot since I wrote this, but I definitely want to target browser!

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

have you released it?

Nope, though I have been making slow progress on it for a while. The last time I posted about it publicly was this post, where I detailed my change in focus for the visuals/gameplay, though even that is a bit out of date at this point, haha.

are you planning to finish it this month/year?

(1 edit)

This year seems totally possible, but I've been pretty busy outside of working on it, so finishing it this month feels like a stretch, haha. (I'll also probably be putting it on the back burner next month to work on a transformation-focused tabletop game jam that'll be going on then.)

If you follow me Itch'll notify you when it's out, but yeah, I don't expect that to be super soon.
